Retro Funk - The Local Gamer Store!

I recently bought my husband a game he loved playing. It is called Dino Crisis. It is old. Made by Capcom back in the 90's, I think? Very hard to find. Anyhow... The disc came, and he was so excited to play it. But then his old Play Station decided it wasn't going to read the disc! Talk about wanting to pull my hair out. This is the second old console to give out on us for one reason or another, right after we bought a game for it. We expect this behavior from the newer Xbox versions. But older consoles were built to last. So when they hit their expiration date, it is heartbreaking! 

My husband wasn't wanting to give up easily though. This is definitely one of the things I love about this guy! He fiddled with it and tried other discs. What we came to see is that the PS console still works. It is just the reader that isn't functioning properly. Hmm... what to do! He got online to see what types of game stores were around us. 

That is how we found out about Retro Funk! This store is still new here in Midland. Opening in February of this year, they have a variety of older games, collectibles, and even consoles! They also hold raffles and tournaments that are fun. 

But the best news we had? They can order parts and repair the console for us! Base fee is $50. Then it just depends on what parts are required and what kind of work has to be done that the price may increase. But isn't that better than having to hunt down another retro gaming console?? 

My husband says, "There's no junk at Retro Funk!" I do concur. And we are not the only ones. Even this Canadian was there recently, praising their store and inventory! I had to share his video because it really paints a better picture of what they have to offer. This place is going to be somewhere that my sons and husband, in particular, will want to visit when they can. So if you ever come out and are looking to go old school in your gaming, this is the place to see! 

Supporting Our Local Dairy and Creamery!

We consider ourselves blessed to go to the church that allowed us to meet the Millers from Mill-King Market and Creamery. They are an amazing family! Even better, we finally made it to their farm. It is quite the operation, carried out with lots of love and dedication. 

My husband and I have had plenty of intestinal issues over the past 3 years. From giving up store-bought beef, to not eating bacon, to only being allowed to eat mozzarella cheese! It has been quite the roller coaster as we discover what we can and cannot handle eating these days. I think that giving up ground beef was the hardest for my husband. His favorite meal is shepherds pie after all. This past year, we would occasionally make it to the Farmer's Market. Not often though. They had grass-fed beef from local farmers, but it was pricey. So we would get a couple pounds just to make a shepherds pie. Oooohhh it was soooo good! It was like a rare treat for us. 

Fast forward to now! 

After forgetting to check online for months, I remembered to look up Mill-King. So glad I did! They have a market store where you can find all kinds of treats from other local farmers. They also have their own ground beef! I have ordered that and even mayhaw jelly from them. Mayhaw jelly was my Nana's favorite treat. But she couldn't always find it her local market in Louisiana. So when I'd go visit, we would have toast and mayhaw jelly for a breakfast treat. I remember watching her smooth it over so carefully then say, "Mmmmm girl!" You can't imagine the joy I had when I got some from Mill-King. If only to relive those memories.

In addition to being able to order from them, they deliver! They were an amazing comfort to so many during our Wintergeddon months, as well as for those staying home during the early covid outbreak months. But they haven't just been there during those months. They are still holding strong. 

Today, we took a family trip to the farm. We got a personal tour that allowed us to see and appreciate just how much goes into what they do. This family-run business is amazing! Our kids had so much fun. My husbands reaction to the farm got me. He is definitely a city boy! We even learned about a couple of historical markers that have a fantastic story to tell about the early days when pioneers were going west through Waco. 

If you are local or come in for a visit, I highly suggest you check them out. Take the kids and ask them about their operation. The market store has all kinds of things you can get. Today's treats were some sodas, ground beef, and of course we couldn't leave without picking up Gigi's Fancy Fudge. You haven't lived until you try some! Next time, I want to try their raw milk. I hear the chocolate is divine.

They have a Facebook page that keeps you up to date. Their website to play orders, you just need to create an account and start shopping with local and wholesome in mind. If you want cleaner living, you want to see what they have to offer. It isn't just foods and milk! If you want to stop in, the store's address is 4483 Orion Rd, McGregor, TX 76657. Your GPS should lead you here where you will see a purple store sign pointing down the right way. However, it might not always like that address, so they suggest using 1410 Coyote Ln, McGregor, TX. This was the one I used since it was on their Facebook page. That is where our GPS led us to the sign.
